About NAAHPA
Nepalese Australian Allied Health Professionals Association Inc. (NAAHPA) is a not-for-profit, non-political and independent values-driven association. NAAHPA has been formed to represent the Nepalese allied health professionals currently registered, practicing, studying, or intending to practice in Australia in the future. It is a platform established to develop a connection amongst allied health professionals, building networks, educating and sharing knowledge and experience amongst the professionals representing various disciplines of allied health with an intention of strengthening allied health-giving back to the community.
NAAHPA comprises two committees: National Executive Committee (NEC) which consists of 9 members and States and Territories Coordination Committee (SAT CC) which consists of 7 members in each State and Territory. All NEC and SATCC members represent diversified disciplines of allied health such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Chiropractor, Speech Pathologist, Dietician Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics, etc.; with an intention of including more disciplines within the allied health community.
Our story
NAAHPA, formally established on 24th August 2021, has been a journey of exploring and learning. A few years ago, the realization whilst coming across allied health professionals was a challenge as the Nepalese community was in the verge of growing. Understanding the need, the idea to form an association was generated. The journey began with informal discussions amongst a few people and a series of consultations then after.
An informal Expression of Interest was called out on the Facebook platform for the interested candidate with an intention to be a part of the team. 9 candidates expressed their interests and were self-nominated to be in the team from all over Australia. Next, a Facebook chat group called “Nepalese Allied Health Group of Australia” was formed on 24th March 2021. It further progressed to Zoom meeting, interactive exchange of ideas took place on 18th April 2021 and thus, leading to the first formal meeting on 8th May 2021. Finally, on 29th May 2021, an application for the registration of NAAHPA was made and formally registered as NAAHPA on 24th August 2021 in Queensland, Australia.
A Facebook group and page “NAAHPA” were created in social media to raise awareness about the existence of an association. A social platform wherein the allied health professionals of the Nepalese community can build a social network and professional engagement. To further enhance the access, NAAHPA website was developed in the following month (September 2021). NEC 9 members have worked tirelessly to uplift this association and boost the connectivity and inclusivity amongst allied health professionals through this platform. Today, the memberships are open to professionals looking to expand their professional network, engage, share knowledge, collaborate.
